Op Ed

I was scanning an Op-Ed recently about the state of American Politics, a subject that I habitually avoid. But the title was "Old Habits" which intrigued me, as did the opening lines of the piece...

"Two years after an election that seemed to portend a new era of comity, American politics has resumed what now appears to be its permanent condition of polarization, quite possibly worsened by widening rifts within the two parties."

Now, whether you agree with the author's take on the state of politics or not, this did get me thinking. Truly it was a historic election, with the first African American in office, and the first who may or may not possess a Judeo Christian upbringing and outlook. Yet, here we are...Obama's popularity has dropped immensely and we face yet another election where it looks as if some of the balance of power will swing back toward the Republican side of the coin.

And yet, I am bored by it. Tired of continuing to chase our tail and accomplish...what? The biggest TV show today may be "Mad Men", and I was thinking maybe we need to put Don Draper in office to bring some fresh, creative ideas to the table. How else can we got out of this terrible rendition of the movie Groundhog Day. In that movie, you recall, Bill Murray had to LEARN something to break out of the endless cycle.

What do you need to learn today? What do I need to learn today? Lets keep our eyes and ears open...
