Some of my favorite childhood memories took place in barns. The associations in my mind in regard to barns are almost completely positive feelings and memories. Of course, part of that may have been due to the fact that I never actually lived on a farm. My dad worked for the 4-H service and several folks in my Church owned farms, so I was able to spend a lot of time in barns as a kid. One of my friends and I even created a haunted house in one of those barns for our youth group. Much of my favorite book when I was a kid, Charlotte's Web, is also set in a barn. These spaces seemed larger than life to me.
Barns are magical, mystical places where humans and animals meet. They were also the first storage sheds, and it seems any time I go into a barn, I discover delightful items hidden and tucked away. Barns are wonderful places to climb around, explore and dream up all kinds of adventures.
What were your experiences with barns growing up?
